Description

A nozzle is a device designed to control the direction or characteristics of a fluid flow (such as gas, liquid, or steam) as it exits an enclosed chamber or pipe. Nozzles are widely used in various industrial applications, including propulsion systems (like rocket engines and jet turbines), spraying systems (such as agricultural sprayers and paint guns), and fluid measurement devices.

The primary function of a nozzle is to accelerate the fluid flow by converting pressure energy into kinetic energy. This is achieved by gradually narrowing the cross-sectional area of the nozzle, which causes the fluid to speed up as it passes through. Depending on the design and application, nozzles can produce different flow patterns, such as a straight jet, a conical spray, or a flat fan.

Nozzles come in various shapes and sizes, tailored to specific needs. For example, a converging nozzle narrows down the flow passage to increase the fluid velocity, while a diverging nozzle (often used in supersonic applications) expands the flow passage to further accelerate the fluid after it has reached sonic speed.
